Etymology: < phthalimido glutarimide , < phthalimide n. + -o suffix + glutaric adjective s.v. glut- comb. form + imide n.
A non-barbiturate sedative and hypnotic, C13H10N2O4, which was found to be teratogenic when taken early in pregnancy, sometimes causing malformation or absence of limbs in the fœtus.
