Etymology: < re- prefix + murmur v., after classical Latin remurmurāre to respond with a murmuring sound, to murmur back, to grumble in response. Compare earlier remurmuration n., remurmuring adj.
Chiefly poetic.

a. intransitive. Of a place: to re-echo with low, subdued sounds (frequently with with). Also of the wind, a stream, etc.: to make a continuous murmuring sound. Now rare.
