Etymology: < classical Latin Parthenius (compare ancient Greek Παρθένιος) of or associated with Mount Parthenios (classical Latin Parthenius) + -an suffix.
Classical Mythology. Now rare and literary.
Belonging to or associated with the region of Mount Parthenios in Arcadia (on the southern Greek mainland).

Etymology: < ancient Greek παρθένιος of or relating to a virgin ( < παρθένος girl, virgin (see partheno- comb. form) + -ιος, suffix forming adjectives) + -an suffix. N.E.D. (1904) gives the pronunciation as (paɹþī·niăn) /pɑːˈθiːnɪən/.
