Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from Latin. Partly a borrowing from French. Etymons: Latin pomiformis; French pomiforme.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin pomiformis (1704; also in scientific Latin as a specific epithet from 1753; < classical Latin pōmi- , combining form of pōmum (see pomum n.) + -formis -form comb. form2; compare -iform comb. form), originally via French pomiforme (1812).
Having the shape of a pome or apple.
