Etymology: < woad v. + -ing suffix1.
1. The action of dyeing cloth, wool, etc., with woad (woad n.1 2a), esp. prior to dyeing with other colours or dyes. Now rare. The process of woading before further dyeing fixed more fugitive dyes and made them more permanent, and improved the appearance and durability of the material.
