Origin: Apparently a borrowing from French. Etymon: French pouche.
Etymology: Apparently < Anglo-Norman and Middle French pouche pouch n. (1377 in sense ‘net for catching animals’; compare also French regional poche fish basket), although the exact relationship is difficult to explain phonologically. Alternatively, perhaps compare pitch n.2 10.
Obsolete. rare.
A small basket; a fish trap.
