Etymology: < scientific Latin Neopilina (H. Lemche 1957, in Nature 23 Feb. 414/1) < neo- neo- comb. form + Pilina, name of a genus of fossil monoplacophorans, of uncertain origin (E. Koken 1925).

Zoology.

A genus of primitive deep-sea univalve molluscs belonging to the class Monoplacophora; (also) a mollusc of this genus.Monoplacophorans were known only from fossils until living specimens of Neopilina were discovered in 1952.
