Displaying or characterized by readiness to attempt something dangerous or difficult; plucky, ‘gung-ho’, intrepid. Esp. in have-a-go hero.In early use chiefly in journalistic contexts.The expression became more common, and acquired specific association with acts of bravery against criminals by ordinary citizens, after 1965; cf. to have a go (go n.1 Phrases 1d).
