Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French age prier.
Etymology: < Anglo-Norman and Law French age prier (1346 or earlier) < age age n. + prier prayer, imprecation (late 12th cent. or earlier), plea (a1321 or earlier in a legal context), use as noun of prier to ask (see pray v.). In α. forms with remodelling of the second element after prayer n.1Compare post-classical Latin ætatem precari , ætatis precatio (both 1607 or earlier (in the source of quot. 1607); apparently after the English term or its French etymon).
Law. Now rare (historical in later use).
A plea or motion that a suit against a minor should be deferred until he or she has come of age; the right to submit such a petition.Chiefly (and in later use only) in legal glossaries.
