ergotamine Biochem.|ɜːˈgɒtəmiːn, -ɪn| [ad. G. ergotamin (Spiro & Stoll 1921, in Actes Soc. Helv. Sci. Nat. 1920 235), f. ergot + amine.] An alkaloid, C33H35O5N5, present in some kinds of ergot and used chiefly in the treatment of migraine. Hence ergoˈtaminine [ad. G. ergotaminin (Spiro & Stoll 1921, in Actes Soc. Helv. Sci. Nat. 1920 236), f. ergot + amine + -ine5], a physiologically inactive ergot alkaloid, isomeric with ergotamine.
