Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin retrovertere.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin retrovertere to destroy, overthrow (Vetus Latina), to turn back (5th cent.) < classical Latin retrō retro- prefix + vertere to turn (see vert v.1). Compare earlier retroversion n., and also revert v. In specific medical use in sense 1b after retroverted adj. (see retroverted adj. 2).
