Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: resin n., -osis suffix.
Etymology: < resin n. + -osis suffix, after German Resinosis (1867 or earlier).
Botany.
An abnormal condition in conifers marked by abundant discharge of resin from the root or lower part of the stem, whether due to attack by a fungus (esp. the honey fungus, Armillariella mellea) or any other cause. Cf. resin flux n. at resin n. and adj. Compounds 2.
