单词 agitant
释义

agitantn.adj.

Brit. /ˈadʒᵻt(ə)nt/, U.S. /ˈædʒəd(ə)nt/, /ˈædʒətnt/
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin agitant-, agitāns, agitāre.
Etymology: < classical Latin agitant-, agitāns, present participle of agitāre agitate v. With sense A. 1 compare agitate v. 6, slightly earlier adjutant n. 2, and slightly later agitator n. 2. With the use as adjective compare French agitant (1611 in Cotgrave), use as adjective of present participle of agiter (see agitate v.); the use as noun is apparently not paralleled in French. Compare also agitating adj.
A. n.
1. = adjutant n. Cf. agitator n. 2. Obsolete.
