Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin agitātrīx.
Etymology: < classical Latin agitātrīx (with reference to the soul) agitator (2nd cent. a.d. in Apuleius), in post-classical Latin also female person (or goddess) who agitates (4th cent.), feminine form corresponding to agitātor ; < agitāt- , past participial stem of agitāre agitate v. + -trīx -trix suffix.
