Origin: Apparently either (i) a borrowing from French. Or perhaps (ii) a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymons: French rescrit ; rescript n.
Etymology: Apparently < Middle French rescrit (see rescript n.), although apparently not recorded in this sense in French. Alternatively perhaps simply a variant of rescript n. (compare rescript n. 1a).
Obsolete. rare.
