The Romance nouns represent two different morphological types, formed with the suffixes corresponding to -our suffix and -ure suffix¹ respectively, but merged in Anglo-Norman due to regular phonological developments. With Anglo-Norman fraidure , etc., compare Anglo-Norman and Middle French, French froidure (12th cent. in Old French), and also Old Occitan freidura , frejura .
