Etymology: < pea n.2 + stone n. In sense 1 after scientific Latin pisolithus: see pisolite n., pisolith n. With sense 2 compare slightly later pea gravel n. at pea n.2 Compounds 2.
1. Geology. A sedimentary rock, esp. a limestone, consisting chiefly of pisoliths; = pisolite n. 2. Obsolete.
