单词 particularist
释义

particularistn.adj.

Brit. /pəˈtɪkjᵿlərɪst/, U.S. /pə(r)ˈtɪkjələrəst/, /pɑrˈtɪkjələrəst/
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: particular n., -ist suffix.
Etymology: < particular n. + -ist suffix, after French particulariste (1701 as noun, 1796 as adjective). Compare German Partikularist (1848 or earlier in political context, 1740 or earlier in theological context as Particularisten, plural), post-classical Latin particularista (1740 in a Latin-German dictionary).Quot. 1842 at sense A. apparently attributes coinage of the term as a sectarian name to the assembly of the Dutch Reformed Church at Dort (also Dordrecht) in 1618–19. However, the term apparently does not occur in the Canons of Dort adopted by that synod.
