Etymology: < French pasquinade (1566 in Middle French) < Pasquin Pasquin n. + -ade -ade suffix, after Italian pasquinata pasquinata n. Compare earlier pasquinata n., pasquinado n.
(Originally) a lampoon posted in a public place; (later) any circulated or published lampoon or libel. Cf. pasquil n. 2.
