Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French parcage.
Etymology: < Middle French, French parcage (late 14th cent. as parquaige in sense ‘enclosure’, in 15th cent. specifically with reference to enclosures for livestock) < parquer to enclose livestock (see park v.) + -age -age suffix. Compare post-classical Latin parcagium fee for use of a park or pound (12th cent. in British sources), fee for transgression of park rights, or fee for release of impounded animal (from 1230 in British sources).
Chiefly Scottish. Obsolete.
Enclosure; the shutting up of stray animals.
