Etymology: < oligo- comb. form + -tropic comb. form, after German oligotrop, adjective (E. Loew 1884, in Jahrb. Bot. Gartens Berlin 3 256).
Entomology.
Of an insect, esp. a bee: collecting nectar from the flowers of only a few related plants. Contrasted with polytropic adj. 3. Cf. oligolectic adj. at oligo- comb. form .
