Etymology: < classical Latin aedicula aedicula n.; compare -cule suffix. Compare French ædicule (now édicule ; 1829 denoting a small shrine containing Roman household gods or, in a temple, the statue of a god, 1866 denoting a similar structure in a church). Compare earlier aedicula n.
= aedicula n.; spec. the structure covering the Holy Sepulchre. Also: a representation of a structural feature (usually in miniature) for ornamental purposes.
