Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin obiūrāre.
Etymology: < classical Latin obiūrāre to bind by an oath < ob- ob- prefix + iūrāre to swear (see jurant adj. and n.). Compare Middle French objurer (1460 as oubjurer).The form obiure occurs as a typographical error (for abjure v.) in the following quot.:1583 J. Foxe Actes & Monuments (ed. 4) I. 665/2 Upon the which Articles he being conuict, was forced to obiure [1563, 1570, 1576 abiure] and suffred like penance as the other before had done.
