Also: the prohibition of this.Riba is prohibited in Qur'anic verses (e.g. 2:275–9), but precisely what constitutes riba is debated by Islamic jurists. Although historically the Qur'an has been interpreted as considering any interest unlawful, many Muslim countries today allow the charging of moderate interest, and only prohibit excessive interest.
