Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Greek νοήματ- , νόημα , -ic suffix.
Etymology: < ancient Greek νοήματ-, νόημα thought (see noema n.) + -ic suffix. In sense 1b after German noematisch (see noematical adj.). In sense 2 after noeme n. Compare Byzantine Greek νοηματικός rational (5th cent.). Compare earlier noematical adj., noematically adv.
