Etymology: < classical Latin colossēus much larger than life, colossal ( < colossus colossus n. + -ēus (see -eous suffix); compare Hellenistic Greek κολοσσιαῖος ) + -an suffix. Compare earlier colossian adj.2
Now archaic and rare.
