Origin: A variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymon: musk deer n.
Etymology: Alteration of musk deer n., in α. forms apparently after mouse n. (perhaps on account of the animal's colouring and small size), and in β. forms apparently after moose deer n. at moose n.2 Compounds 2.A corresponding term is apparently not found in Dutch (compare quot. 1803).
The chevrotain, a very small deer-like animal of the family Tragulidae, native to the forests of Asia and Africa.
