attributive and in the genitive. Designating concepts and relationships arising from Moseley's studies of the X-ray emissions of the elements. Moseley diagram n. (also Moseley plot) a (linear) graph obtained by plotting the atomic numbers of a set of elements against the square root of the frequency of their characteristic X-ray emissions. Moseley's law n. (also Moseley relation) a law formulated by Moseley in 1913 ( Philos. Mag. 24 1024) which states that the square root of the frequency of the characteristic X-ray emissions of certain elements is proportional to their atomic number.
