Etymology: < German Moroxit (P. C. Abilgaard 1798, in C. E. F. von Moll Jahrb. der Berg- u. Hüttenkunde II. 432) < Hellenistic Greek μόροξος (also μόροχθος ) a kind of pipeclay (perhaps a loanword) + German -it -ite suffix¹.
