1910 Lancet 25 June 1738/2 Neufeld and Rimpau drew attention to the presence in immune sera of a similar humoral substance, conditioning phagocytosis, but differing from Wright's opsonin in that it was thermostable. This they termed ‘bacteriotropin’. [In Deut. Med. Wochenschr. (1905) XXXI. 1610 they used the expression ‘Bakteriotrope Substanzen’.—Ed.]
1961 A. S. MacNalty Brit. Med. Dict. 169/2 Bacteriotropin, a heat-resisting opsonin which acts on bacteria, and which assists the phagocytes in their work. Also known as immune opsonin.
