Origin: A borrowing from Norn.
Etymology: < the unattested Norn reflex of the early Scandinavian word represented by Old Icelandic kví pen, enclosure, Faroese kvíggj , Norwegian kve , Swedish regional kvi , kvia , further etymology uncertain; perhaps from the same Indo-European base as Umbrian bio enclosure. Compare plantiequoy n.
Scottish (Orkney and Shetland).
An area of former wasteland or common pasture enclosed for cultivation or raising livestock. (Frequently in place names.)
