1. An expression or outpouring of love that is supposedly conveyed from one person to another by telepathic or extra-sensory means. Obsolete.Apparently an isolated use.

2. An effusive demonstration of approval or affection, esp. used as a form of psychological manipulation designed to gain a person's trust, loyalty, or compliance. Later also in weakened sense: any intense or effusive display of solicitude or affection.Originally as a technique used by religious movements to recruit or retain members, and associated especially with the Unification Church (Unification Church n.).
