单词 pedagogic
释义

pedagogicadj.n.

Brit. /ˌpɛdəˈɡɒdʒɪk/, /ˌpɛdəˈɡɒɡɪk/, U.S. /ˌpɛdəˈɡɑdʒɪk/
Forms: 1600s paedagogick, 1700s–1800s paedagogic, 1700s– pedagogic.
Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from French. Partly a borrowing from Latin. Etymons: French pédagogique; Latin paedagogicus.
Etymology: Partly < French pédagogique (1610 as adjective, 1771 as noun), and partly < post-classical Latin paedagogicus educative (a1100 in a British source, from 15th cent. in continental sources), scholastic (1620 in a British source), both < Hellenistic Greek παιδαγωγικός suitable for a teacher or trainer, already in ancient Greek as noun (see below) < ancient Greek παιδαγωγός pedagogue n. + -ικός -ic suffix. With use as noun compare ancient Greek παιδαγωγική (feminine), denoting a system of medicine, Hellenistic Greek παιδαγωγικός (masculine, short for παιδαγωγικὸς λόγος ), title of a treatise on education, and -ic suffix 2. Compare German Pädagogik , noun (1764 or earlier, also pädagogisch , adjective (1774 or earlier)). Compare earlier pedagogical adj. N.E.D. (1904) gives only the pronunciation (pedăgǫ·dʒik) /pɛdəˈɡɒdʒɪk/.
