Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin pecūliāt-, pecūliāre.
Etymology: < classical Latin pecūliāt-, past participial stem (compare -ate suffix3) of pecūliāre to provide with a peculium, in post-classical Latin also to appropriate (a1142, c1212 in British sources). Compare earlier peculiarize v.
Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
