单词 interdice
释义

interdicen.

Forms: 1600s enterdese, enter-, interdice, 1700s entertise, intertise, interduce.
Etymology: Derivation obscure. The Old French entretoise (apparently of same meaning) < late Latin *intertensa ‘something stretched between’, would in English normally assume the form *entertese , of which the recorded enterdese and entertise seem to be corruptions. The form enterdese seems to have been further corrupted into enter- , interdise , and perverted by pseudo-etymology into enter- , interduce , as if < Latin dūcĕre to lead; while entertise , interties , have suggested the formation of the modern synonym intertie n.
Carpentry. Obsolete.
A horizontal piece of timber connecting two vertical pieces; an intertie n.
