Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin pediferus.
Etymology: < scientific Latin and post-classical Latin pediferus (1785 or earlier; < classical Latin pedi- pedi- comb. form + -ferus : see -iferous comb. form) + -ous suffix. Compare French pédifère (1842 or earlier). Compare earlier pedigerous adj. N.E.D. (1904) gives only the pronunciation (pĭdi·fĕrəs) /pɪˈdɪfərəs/.
Chiefly Zoology. rare.
Having or bearing feet or legs, or parts resembling feet. Cf. pedigerous adj.
