Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin pediculosis.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin pediculosis (in morbus pediculosis : see quot. 1769) < classical Latin pēdiculus pedicle n.1 + -ōsis -osis suffix. Compare French pédiculose (1892 or earlier). Compare earlier pediculation n. and phthiriasis n.
Medicine.
Infestation of the hair, body, or clothing with lice. Cf. phthiriasis n.
