Etymology: Probably < dunt v.3 (although this is first attested slightly later) + -ing suffix1. Compare later dunt n.3
Ceramics.
With reference to ceramic material: the action of cracking as a result of being heated or cooled too rapidly, typically during the firing or cooling of a kiln. Also occasionally: a crack caused in this way.
