释义 | amituren. Apparently an editorial misreading of aunture, variant of adventure n., in the version of the Romance of King Alexander given in H. Weber Metrical Romances (1810) 163, interpreted in J. Hunter & J. Stevenson Boucher's Gloss. Obs. & Provinc. Words (1832) and some later dictionaries as ‘friendship’ (cf. amity n., etc.), and in N.E.D. (1884) as ‘clothing, dress’, explained as deriving ultimately from Latin amictorium scarf or wrap (cf. amict v.).The passage is given as follows in the standard modern edition of the text (by G. V. Smithers, 1952): ΚΠ a1425 (?a1300) Kyng Alisaunder (Linc. Inn) (1952) 3943 Ȝursturday þow come in aunture [c1400 Laud in oure atoure], Y armed so on of myne.
