This word hyther was introduced to indicate the sensation caused by a warm climate, and supposed to be due to the combined effect of heat and humidity. 1937 Nature 9 Jan. 79/1 Their sensations were recorded on an arbitrary scale extending from 1 to 10; the numbers on the scale have been called hythers, hyther 10 being taken to represent an ‘unbearable condition’.
