Etymology: < classical Latin dēlīrātiōn-, dēlīrātiō delirium, madness < dēlīrāt- , past participial stem of dēlīrāre delire v. + -iō -ion suffix1. Compare earlier delirium n. and later delirate v.
Now somewhat rare.
