Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin crīnis , -osity suffix.
Etymology: < classical Latin crīnis hair (see crine n.) + -osity suffix. Compare later crinose adj.A post-classical Latin form crinositas is cited in Blount (see quot. 1656) but is apparently not recorded in Latin texts.
Now rare.
Hairiness. Also in extended use.
