Law (now historical) actions which are not treasonous in themselves but which collectively are judged to constitute treason; cf. constructive treason n. at treason n. 2c.In later use chiefly with reference to Thomas Wentworth, 1st Earl of Strafford, who was executed for treason in 1641 (cf. quot. 1647 and quot. 16411 at sense 1).
