Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin corporativus.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin corporativus of or relating to the forming of a body (5th cent.) < classical Latin corporāt- , past participial stem of corporāre to form into a body (see corporate v.) + -īvus -ive suffix.In sense 2 after Italian corporativo (1925 in Stato Corporativo with allusion to Fascist Italy; 1893 in a socialist source with allusion to trade unions; mid 19th cent. in general sense ‘of or relating to corporations’).
