▪ I. pardoner1 Now only Hist.|ˈpɑːdənə(r)| Also 4–6 perdon-, (5 perden-); 5 -eer, 5–6 -are, -air, -ar. [In AF. pardoner; F. pardonnier (Palsgr.); f. pardon n. + -er2 2: cf. garden-er; also obs. F. pardonnaire in Rabelais.] A person licensed to sell papal pardons or indulgences.
