sauropod, a. and n.|ˈsɔːrəʊpɒd| [f. mod.L. sauropoda (O. C. Marsh 1884, in Nature 20 Nov. 68/2), f. Gr. σαῦρο-ς lizard + ποδ-, πούς foot.] a. adj. = sauropodous a. b. n. A member of the suborder Sauropoda of gigantic herbivorous dinosaurs.
