Anna, n.2 Ornith.|ˈænə| [The forename of the wife of Prince François Massena (c 1795–1863), Duc de Rivoli, who procured the original specimen.] Anna('s) hummingbird [tr. F. oiseau-mouche Anna (named in R. P. Lesson Hist. Naturelle des Oiseaux-Mouches (1829) 205)], a North American hummingbird, Calypte anna, found chiefly in California, the male of which has a deep rose-red head and throat.
