ephedra|ɛˈfɛdrə| [mod.L. (Tournefort in Linnæus Genera Plantarum (1737) 312), f. Gr. ἐϕέδρα sitting upon.] A member of the genus of low evergreen trailing shrubs so called, belonging to the family Gnetaceæ and sometimes called shrubby horsetails. Hence ˈephedroid a., resembling ephedra.
