elasipod, n. (and a.) Zool.|ɪˈlæsɪpɒd| [ad. mod.L. Elasipoda (H. Théel 1882, in Rep. Sci. Results Voyage H.M.S. Challenger: Zool. IV. xiii. 1), f. Gr. ἐλασµός metal plate + -i- + πούς, ποδ- foot.] A member of the order Elasipoda of holothurians, found mainly in deep water and characterized by shield-shaped buccal tentacles and the absence of respiratory trees.
