Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin adscrīptiōn-, adscrīptiō.
Etymology: < classical Latin adscrīptiōn-, adscrīptiō (also ascrīptiō : see ascription n.). Compare ascription n., which is now the usual form, except in specific use in sense 3 (with which compare specific uses of adscript n. and adscript adj.). Compare also the foreign-language forms cited at ascription n. Compare earlier ascribe v.In sense 3 ultimately after post-classical Latin ascriptus glebae (see adscript n. and adj.).
